#24HrsToots

A recent piece of research claimed that Tooting is the unhappiest place in London, something that all Tooting residents knew to be false. I don’t know whether the excellent Tooting Daily PRSS organised #24HrsToots to counter this reputation or not, but it was a fantastic idea. The concept was for as many people as possible to post stories and photos of Tooting from 6am, 18th July to 6am on the 19th. As you can see from the hashtag on Twitter, people weren’t shy in sharing their stories of Tooting.

Anna and I headed out, armed with cameras, to talk to people in the market and try and showcase some of the best that Tooting has to offer. We started with coffee and pastries in the brand new Coffee Co. Tooting.

Next we moved in to Tooting Market to see what was happening. We spoke to loads of people including Breakfast and Burgers, Unwined in Tooting and Sunyani Stores (my favourite Ghanaian shop).

We also picked up some burgers from the butcher and took a look at the fresh crabs at the fishmonger.

Finally we headed back out to see Tooting looks gorgeous in the sun.

For the whole morning everyone we met was incredibly friendly and willing to chat for ages about their work and what brought them to Tooting. I recommend the researchers come back and delve a little deeper.

For those of you that haven’t visited Tooting I hope my small taste of what the area has to offer has convinced you to come by.
